Gansey

I finally finished my grand nephew's gansey this week. I used the Yankee Knitter Design pattern.I'm happy with the color and the pattern called Fisherlad Guernsey.I used Woolese in a heathered dark green which I hope won't pill too much. This was the first time I knitted gussets for a sweater. It was easier than I thought it would be.

I think I may make another gansey. I like the no sew approach to sweater knitting. The Knitting Fool has a pattern for a simple gansey. You can add your calculations to the boxes, and voila you have a pattern especially for you.

UTube has a video of an old film clip of ganseys worn by fisherman here.

Little kids in ganseys look so cute. I like their construction too, with so little finishing. The film clip was neat - but can you believe men wearing jackets and ties while working with smelly old fish!
